FIFA World Cup 2010: Nani Out with a Collar Bone Injury

The winger who scored 3 goals for Portugal in the qualifying rounds of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is now out of the tournament completely. The reason for this is an injury in the collar bone during one of the preliminary practice sessions just before the start of the tournament. The 3 goals during the qualifying rounds had given great hopes for Portugal in the tournament. But with this loss we’ll only have to wait and see.

Nani was treated immediately after the injury, but unfortunately these treatments don’t seem to have made him fit enough to be a part of the FIFA World Cup 2010. It’s unfortunate that a opportunity for fulfilling dreams has to be let go of due to some of the unforeseen, unavoidable reasons. With 3 goals in 11 matches, Nani, along with the team, did have a great opportunity to showcase and prove during this 2010 FIFA World Cup, which now although still within the reach of the team, is out of reach at least for Nani.

We do not exactly know when Nani was injured but the last match he played before his injury was a friendly that the team won 3-1 against Cameroon. Although the Portugal coach, Carlos Queiroz was disappointed, he mentioned that in the 30 years of his experiences as coach, he had not seen a player as determined as Nani was to get better. Portugal is one of the many countries in Group ‘G’ in the World Cup. This group is very dearly referred to as “the group of death.” A few more weeks, and we’ll know how Portugal or it’s other competitors performed this FIFA World Cup, 2010.
