What is the meaning of fencing? What are the equipments used for fencing?

Fencing is referred to the art of armed combat involving cutting, stabbing, or bludgeoning weapons directly manipulated by hand, rather than shot or thrown.

Fencing is one of the popular parts of sports generally used, and is also a part of Olympics too. Word fence is a shortening of the Middle English 'defens'.

Fencing is divided in to categories:

Competitive Fencing

Competitive Fencing which refers to the all those terms that approach the activity as a sport, with varying degrees of connectedness to its historic past. And its few common examples are Olympic Fencing and wheelchair Fencing.

Western Martial arts fencing

Western Martial arts fencing that includes the activities that approach it as a Western martial art, with the goal being to train for a theoretical duel. Its most common examples are classical fencing, historical fencing and the equipments generally used in this are bucklers, daggers, pole arms, bludgeoning weaponsetc.

Other Formns of fencings

Few other forms of Fencing, includes all those which have little in common besides history. Its common examples are stage and academic fencing which includes the context of historical or fantasy themes or live-action role playing games.

Saber is defined as the weapon generally used by fencers for cutting purpose. The sabre target covers everything above the waist, except the hands and the back of the head.

Stabbing refers to the penetration of a sharp or pointed object at close range.

Swordis generally used as a long-edged piece of metal, used as a cutting and/or thrusting weapon.
