The Czech Republic is a country in Central Europe. The largest city of this country is Prague city which is also the capital and a major tourist spot. The Prague city has a large airport known as the Prague international airport.

It shares its border with Poland to the north east, Germany to the west, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east.

Etymology of Czech Republic:-

Before the origin of actual name called the Czech Republic it undergoes different names like “Czechia” which is used by the ministry of foreign affairs but it doesn’t work. After that another name was suggested known as “Czechland” which means “the land of Czechs”.

History of Czech Republic:-

According to the history of Czech Republic people settled in the area was considered as the Neolithic era and after that around 3rd century BC and in the first century people from Celtic and quadi came to the country which was considered as the classical era.

In 5th century AD many people move towards the south and the west leaving Slavic people behind. At this moment the country became the Slavic country and most of the Slavic people reside in the region of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. The bohemian and Moravian states were governed by the Premyslid dynasty. King Premysl Otakar was the ruler of this dynasty.

In 13th century Germans came to the country and made the German colonies in the interior of Czech islands. After that in 1241 the battle of Legnica arises in which the Mongol army attacked the Europe and moved towards the Moravia. Due to the wealth and military power the King Premysl Otakar II came into power but unfortunately died by his rival Rudolph I of Habsburg in the battle of Marchfeld.

After a series of wars the new dynasty was formed which was known as the Luxemburg dynasty which was ruled by the Charles IV. Under his rule Charles University in Prague was established in 1348. In 1380 due to these wars the tenth part of kingdom of bohemia was also destroyed. Then Czechs people revolt against in the participation of Third world war and as a result of which they were ruled by the Austrian Hungarian Empire. After that Habsburg had a full control over the Bohemia but that was considered as the “Dark Age” in the Czech Republic’s history.

When the breakdown of Austrian Hungarian Empire exists then in 1918 republic of Czechoslovakia was created which comprises of new regions Bohemia, Moravia, Slovakia, Silesia, and Carpethian Ruthenia but in 1939 German occupied the Czech Republic and converted into the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

In 1946 when the elections held then the communist party came into power and had a full control over the country.

After 42 years of their rule the velvet revolution takes place and Vaclay Havel became the president. By the end of 1991 Slovak nationalist movement was emerged which helps in getting independence for it. On January 1, 1993 the two independent states were formed due to the failure of general elections.

Politics and government at Czech Republic:-

In Czech Republic Prime minister is the head of the government comprises of 200 members of chambers of deputies and 81 members of Senate. The President is elected for five years and has the power to elect constitutional judge, dissolve the parliament under some circumstances, and can also appoint the prime minister as well as the members of the cabinet.

The parliament is divided into two chambers:
a) The chamber of deputies:-
The members of these chambers are 200 in number and their term limit is of four years.
b) Senate:-
The members of these chambers are 81 in number and their term limit is of six years and is elected by the two-round run off voting.

Czech Republic Geography:-

The country is located between 50 degree 5 minutes north latitude and 14 degree 28 minutes east longitude. Elbe and Vltava rivers are the two important rivers of the country which are surrounded by the mountains. The waters from the rivers are empted into the North, Baltic and Black sea. Snezka is the highest elevation which is located in the country at 1602m.

The temperature of the country depends on the factors like elevation and the distribution of the mountains. It usually covers with snow in winters and are very hot in summers due to which the climate of the country varies and the temperature difference is very high depending on its geographical position. In spring season mostly flood occurs because the water level in the rises due to the melting of the snow.

Czech Republic Currency:-

Czech Koruna is the currency used by the people of the country.

Czech Republic Economy:-

The economy of the country is rich mainly due to the foreign investment and the exports to the European Union and Germany. The tourism department plays a vital role in the growth of the economy. Various spots which attract the tourists are Prague city, spa towns like Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and castlesat Karlstejn etc.

Wheat, potato, sugar beat are some of the crops which are produced in the country and industries like metallurgy, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and glass also helps in the economic growth.

Demographics of Czech Republic:-

About 10,403,136 people are residing in the country and most of them are Czechs but other includes Germans, Vietnamese, Slovaks and Poles. Czech is the official language spoken by the people of the country. As most of the Christians are residing in the country thus Roman Catholic is the religion followed by the majority.

Czech Republic Culture:-

Meat dishes like beef chicken, pork are the famous cuisine of the country. Carp is the famous dish which is served on Christmas. Fernet Stock and Becherovka are the two famous liquors of the country.

Football and ice hockey are the national sports of the country but it became more popular when it is played against Germany, Russia, Sweden, and Slovakia. The other sports which are famous in the country are basketball, volleyball, handball, floor ball and athletics.

Jazz and bluegrass music is very much famous in the country.
