As the spectators has increased to 60,000 until early 1990’s. Further the Taylor report and primer league regulations forced Arsenal to reduce the number of seats for hoarding the advertisement, which will further reduce the number of seats in the champion’s league.
Hence the expansion of Highbury stadium is required but it was restricted by East stand which has been designated as Grade II listed building and the other three stands were close to residents.
After considering various options, Ashburton Grove stadium has been selected which is about 500 meters from Highbury stadium with a capacity of 60,000-seater stadium. Since the sponsorship was made by Emirates airlines the Ashburton Grove stadium was renamed as Emirates stadium until at least 2012 and the airline will be the club's shirt sponsor until the end of the 2013–14 seasons.
