Mexican Open is known as the Abierto Mexicano Telcel Tennis for sponsorship reasons. The joint professional tennis event is part of ATP World Tour 500 series on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour and it is also a part of the WTA International tournaments on Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour.
Which is held at Acapulco, Mexico. This tournament was played on outdoor red clay courts until 2013 after that surface will be changed to hard courts from 2014 onwards. The change of surface will help to the players in preparing themselves for the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the year in Indian Wells, USA.
Launched in 1993, Abierto Mexicano Telcel Tennis turned into a joint tournament after welcoming the WTA in 2001. This tournament is very popular among player as they have chosen it as the WTA's International Tournament of the Year 6 times.
The tour is scheduled to take place in Acapulco in Mexico at Fairmont Acapulco Princess and begins from 23rd February and ends with finals on 28th February 2016. The total prize money of Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2016 is $1,414,550 for ATP 500 series.
