When Is Memorial Day

When is Memorial Day

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May to honor the Union soldiers who laid their lives during the American Civil War. After the World War I, this day was a day of remembrance of not only the soldiers, but all men and women who lost their lives in the war. Formally, Memorial Day is also known as Decoration Day.

How is Memorial Day Celebrated

People celebrate Memorial Day by traditionally flying the flag of the United States and visiting the cemeteries and memorials to honor the souls of those deceased in the World War I. Volunteers also put the American flag on the graves on the day.

In Mississippi, Memorial Day is celebrated jointly with Jefferson Davis' Birthday.
