Mardi Gras is the time for carnival celebrations for the English people. It begins on or after Epiphany and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday. It refers to the whole period of activity and not just a single event though in some US cities, it is also famous as "Mardi Gras Day" or "Fat Tuesday".

How Is Mardi Gras celebrated

In the Catholic European nations, Mardi Gras is a very important festival. The week before Ash Wednesday is known as "shrovetide" in the UK and Ireland and ends on Shrove Tuesday.
The traditional foods for Mardi Gras are pancakes, fried breads or pastries made with sugar, fat and eggs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
