The birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States is a legal holiday in some U.S. states to celebrate his birth anniversary which is on February 12, 1809. The states of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Indiana have declared it as a legal holiday.

How Is Lincoln's Birthday Celebrated

A year after his assassination in 1865, his birthday was formally observed in 1866 and both houses of Congress gathered for a memorial address.
Now, the day is celebrated by traditional wreath-laying ceremonies at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Hodgenville, Kentucky, and at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.
