When Is Groundhog Day

When is Groundhog Day Celebrated?

In United States and Canada Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2. According to traditional knowledge, if it is cloudy when a Groundhog comes out from its tunnel on this day, it will leave the tunnel, intending that the winter-like weather will end soon. The Groundhog will putatively see its apparition if it is sunny and move back to its burrow, and six more weeks of winter-like weather will continue.

History of Groundhog Day:

In southeastern Pennsylvania German custom and central Pennsylvania the Groundhog Day began in 18th and 19th centuries. In Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania the largest Groundhog Day celebration is held.
