When Is First Sunday Advent

On November 29th Christians celebrate First Sunday Advent. It is the start of a liturgical year. The First Sunday Advent opens the Holy Sacrament with that longing cry of the prophesiers of Israel to the Messiah and Jesus Christ whose advent they awaited.

What do People do on First Sunday Advent?

The traditional opening prayer (or Collect) prayed on the first Sunday of Advent: "Stir up Thy might, we beg Thee, and come." With this request to God to "stir up" His might, this day was traditionally called Stir-Up Sunday.

Most of the families make plum pudding or fruit cake or some other dish that all the members of the family and friends can Stir-up. This action of stirring up the food represents our hearts that must be stirred in formulation for Christ's birth.
