About Cinco de Mayo

There is a long history which relates to this day. It is a Mexican holiday which is celebrated by the Mexicans in the memory of their unlikely victory over the French army. This day is celebrated on May 5th of every year. In 1862, the Mexican army went into a war with the French army under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin. It is regarded as an important day in the state of Puebla in America. It is celebrated in the honor of the Mexican heritage and pride.

Significance

As the French army invaded the Mexicans, the Mexican army with only 4000 soldiers crushed the French army with exactly double the army strength. This was the first defeat the French army tasted in 50 years.
