What is Australia Day

Australia day is previously known as Anniversary day or Foundation Day, is celebrated on the 26th of January. It is considered as an official national holiday in Australia. The date is said to be controversial as per a section of Australians. This lead to the usage of different names for this particular day. The Indigenous heritage section of the Australians call this day as Invasion Day or Survival Day.

What is the significance?

The significance of this day is that, it commemorates the arrival of the first fleet to Australia in 1788.  The first Australia Day was celebrated in the year 1808. This was approximately 100 years after the first fleet came to Australia.
