The United States Senate election of Louisiana has been scheduled on the 2nd of November, 2010. The incumbent Senator David Vitter from the Republican Party is seeking re-election for a second term. Vitter has won in 2004 with 51% votes, but got entangled into a prostitution scandal soon after. In this year’s primary election, he has to combat with his Republican opponent Milton Gordon. Gordon is a small business owner and a store manager.

If Vitter makes it to the Senate election, he has to face a tough challenge from the two-term Congressman Charlie Melancon from the Democratic Party in his race to Senate. Melancon is also a prominent member of the Blue Dog Democrats.
The primary election is going to be held on August 28, 2010.

However, according to popular surveys, David Vitter continues to earn over 50% support in his state.
