Visitor Visa is a certificate issued by the UK missions abroad for persons interested in visiting UK for different purposes like for sports, entertainment, visiting to family and friends, for marriage and can be for business. On the expiry of the visa, the person concerned has to leave the country.
Eligibility criteria for visitor visa are different for different purposes.
A person visiting UK as a tourist can’t stay in UK for more than six months. The person should have enough money to support himself in the UK without any job or opening any business. Also, he/she must be able to convince the authorities that he would return to their country at the end of their visit.
This visa is designed for those who are employed in abroad but wants to visit UK for short period of time for business related activities. This type of visa is only given to the people like film crews, representatives of news media, academic visitors, professors, advisors, consultants, trouble shooters, persons who wants to attend meetings or conferences, journalists, interpreters or translators.
Person who wants to do research in UK can apply for academic visitor visa. He must be a senior doctor or dentist. He/She should not apply for any post in UK. Person should have enough money to maintain himself in the country. He cannot do any work except the academic activity. At the end of his visit he has to leave the country.
Eligibility criteria for business visitors: Doctors coming for Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board Test (PLAB)
If a person wants to sit in a PLAB test then he must be a graduate from a bona fide medical school and able to provide the proofs of his eligibility and the date of the examination. The concerned person also has to convince the authorities that he will not apply for any post or admission in UK and will leave the country after giving the test.

If a person wants to visit UK for these purposes then he must be a graduate from a bona fide medical school and able to provide the proofs of the observation only not the treatment of the patients. The concerned person also has to convince the authorities that he will not apply for any post or admission in UK and will leave the country at the end of their visit.
If a person wants to visit UK for a specific tournament, charity events, or for a short period of training then he must apply for a sports visitor visa as an umpire or a member of technical staff or the professional sportspeople and wishes to attend the events in the UK.
Entertainment visitor visa is designed for those who visit UK for taking part in art festivals or in charity events. Person applied for this visa must be a professional entertainer or for giving the audition. He can also apply for this visa as an organizer of the charity event. Choreographers, designers can also apply for an entertainment visa. Entertainment visa can also give to the amateur entertainers who take part in the cultural events organized by the government or the members of the youth orchestra club coming for a specific engagement.
Interested persons can apply for a visitor visa either through post, courier, in person or online. If one wants to do it in person, one can get the application form free of cost from Visa Application Centers (VAC) set up throughout the world to make it more convenient for people to apply for a UK visa. These VACs will forward your application to the UK mission in that country which will then decide whether to give the visa.
Prospective persons can be denied visa if they give wrong information, forged certificates or withhold some important information. The persons can also be denied visa if they are unable to show the liquid assets to finance the studies and accommodation. Once the visa is rejected then rights of appeal varies for the different visas and it can only be done by filling the form.
Normally, the duration of a visa is not more than 6 months. However, the visa can be extended for one, two, five or ten years but the person can stay in UK for only 6 months at a time in this extension except in cases of academic visa. For that, he has to apply for Further Leave to Remain (FLR) and submit the necessary documents in the UK Border Agency office.
