Tammy Wynette was the stage name of Virginia Wynette Pugh who was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. She was the best known artist in the country and highly paid singer. With her stunning performances she became the music icon of America at an International level. She was called the first lady of the country music and her most famous song is “Stand By Your Man”

Birth: She was born on May 5, 1942 and left the world on April 6, 1998.

Childhood

She was born in Tremont and was the only daughter of the parents. Her father was a farmer and a local musician too. Wynette was only nine month old when her father passed away. Her mother who was a substitute teacher in a government school left her child with the grand parent to grow. She then grew up in grand parental environment.

Education

Wynette lived in an atmosphere where she was deprived of so many things. She went to Tremont High School for basic education. After that she completed the graduation and went to Europe. She was living with her aunt who was just of the same age group. She accompanied her in learning many musical instruments. She was very quick and creative in learning new things.

Career

She started her career with the stage name Tammy Wynette and released her first debut album ‘Apartment No 9’ in the year 1966 which was ranked 44 in the hit list of the songs. During 1968 to 1979 she came up with five super hit numerals like  "The Ways to Love a Man" ,"DIVORCE", "Stand by Your Man", "Singing My Song," etc. During the early 1970s she was the number one vocalist artist in the genre. In 1990 her song Heart over Mind aired but her popularity was on the down side.

Achievements

Wynette won the Grammy Award for the best Female Country Vocal Performance for ‘Stand By Your Man’. She earned a Gold Record for Tammy’s Greatest Hits and later on secured the Platinum Record Status. Numerous copies of her songs were selling in the market and she was a celebrity. She got the opportunity to sing with almost all the international acclaimed artists like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell and many others. She maintained her top 10 position for so many years and was one of the most popular icon in the history of music across the countries and continents.
