Even though no information is available on the origin of this day, desserts are to be enjoyed year round. Parfaits originated in France and denote perfection. Parfaits are made differently in every country and offer the perfect excuse to throw a party.
Since the month of June is also National Frozen Yogurt month, why not serve up frozen and fresh versions of strawberry parfait? Strawberry parfait is a good way to end a meal. This easy dessert can be made and taken along for picnics and other occasions.
Made with fresh strawberries, sugar syrup, eggs and cream, the parfait is made by stirring infrequently with little equipment. In the US, this dessert is served in a tall glass with layers of parfait cream, fresh strawberries, gelatin and ice cream. It can be topped off with whipped cream, fresh fruit and/or liqueurs. Any fruit can be used to make a parfait – peaches, blueberries and strawberries.
In France, this dessert is served on a plate and not in a glass. People have experimented with chocolate, mangoes, green tea, bananas, custard and also yogurt to make interesting variations.
Dedicating special days to fruits and different foods is a good way to raise awareness and having a well-rounded diet. Everyone enjoys eating desserts so why not indulge with low fat yogurt, strawberries and granola on a hot summer day? This dessert is easy to make and keeps well in the fridge. It is also easy to make large portions.
There are so many variations to this wonderful and fresh dessert that even those who don’t enjoy baking can try their hand. Use ingredients like pound cake, fresh fruit, custard and any other ingredient that will enhance the taste. Check out recipes with a twist and also share yours with friends and family. Some people even choose to eat it for breakfast by adding granola to it. The sky and your imagination are the limit as far as cooking and baking go – there is no right or wrong way to make and eat this tempting dessert.
