What is OHST test?
The Occupational Health and Safety Technologist is often abbreviated as OHST. This is a certification exam written by the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental, and Safety Technologists (CCHEST). This is managed by Pearson VUE which is designed to determine if an individual has the necessary knowledge to work as a health and safety specialist in an industrial setting.
The OHST Exam assesses the individual's perception of the procedures related to administration of effective safety inspections, safety and health training, maintaining exact records of accidents and safety concerns, safety risk analysis, minimizing safety risks through peril controls, emergency plans, and a potpourri of similar health and safety topics.
The OHST exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions on topics like Worksite Assessment (68 questions), Hazard Control and Loss Prevention (62 questions), Verification (34 questions), Disaster Planning and Emergency Response (28 questions), and Professional Responsibility (8 questions). The test has to be completed in five hours.
The eligibility requirements for the OHST test is that the candidate must possesses atleast five years of experience related to the health and safety field with a minimum of 35% of his duties carried out during that experience. The candidate is also eligible to the OHST test if he/she has an associates' degree or a higher degree related in the health and safety field from a program licensed by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
If the candidate meets any one of the above mentioned requirements, he/she may register for the OHST Test by submitting an application to CCHEST. If the application is accepted, the candidate will receive instructions on how to schedule a test.
If the application of a candidate for appearing in a OHST Test is accepted, the candidate will receive instructions on how to schedule a testing date with Pearson VUE.

The OHST Test is ranked on the basis of your performance in this test. The correct answers qualify over the wrong answers. Many candidates assume that just applying for the OHST test qualifies them for the test. But it takes a lot of hard work to pass in this exam. In order to pass the OHST Test, you must atleast reach the threshold set by the examination council.
