National Pancake Day 2012 date is Wednesday, September 26.
The Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent, a month of prayer and fasting is celebrated as Pancake Day.
The International House of Pancakes popularly known as IHOP is a United States based chain of eateries specialized in breakfast foods, which started the National Pancake Day in 2006 for the sole purpose of raising money to support charities in the communities in which its chain of restaurant operates. The National Pancake day celebrations begin at each IHOP restaurant, where they give away a short stack of their signature buttermilk pancake free to all customers who come in between 7am and 10pm. In return each customer has to make a donation for the Children’s Miracle Network and other charities.
Since 2006, National Pancake Day celebrations at IHOP have netted $8 million to support charities in the areas where they operate.
The celebrations usually begin in February with various events and activities and culminate on the National Pancake Day with free pancakes for all, a celebrity wake-up call and a contest for free pancakes all year around.
The celebrity wakeup call: You have to enter your phone details to receive a complimentary National Pancake Day call from a celebrity of your choice. This personal reminder is delivered on 28th Tuesday February 2012 on your personal cell, home or office. The celebrities include Steve Young from NFL Hall of Fame, recently crowned Miss America Teresa Scanlon, Star John Schneider, American Idol Star David Archuleta and co Founder of Children’s Miracle Hospital Marie Osmond.
