Mario Puzo is a well known writer and author of the world’s bestseller book Godfather. Mario Puzo is an Italian American author and screenwriter who has introduced crime fiction in the industry and is considered to be the master of the same. Mario has also been an army officer and served American Army during World War II. Puzo’s first novel Dark Arena was published in the year 1955 brought Mario some fame. Mario Puzo was made a legendary figure after his book- The Godfather was published. It also made him win the Academy award. After which Mario was ranked among the few front American writer.

Personal Biography

Mario Puzo was born in the year 1920 on October 15th. He belonged to a very poor Italian family who were immigrants and were living in Manhattan. During his childhood Puzo wanted to be an army officer and after graduating from the City College of New York Mario joined the United States Army Air Force. Mario was rejected in the military due to his weak eyesight. He was appointed as a Public Relation officer and was posted in Germany. Mario Puzo got married to Lina Broske and he had five children.

Career

Initially Mario Puzo started his career as an Army officer but was rejected to be in military due to his weak eyesight. Mario started writing short stories from the age of seventeen. It was during World War II, Mario wrote his first novel Dark Arena which was published. Though it received critical acclaim but it did not helped Mario much. Mario’s second novel, The Fortunate Pilgrim was published ten years later and had the same success story similar to that of Dark Arena. After these two failures Mario took Mafia as his subject and wrote the world bestseller book The Godfather.

Mario always had a keen interest in crime genre and he himself wanted to be a Don. His books were being rejected by many editors. Finally in the year 1969 -The Godfather came in; the book that dealt with saga of crime, loyalty, passion and a Don’s family. The record break success of the book gave birth to its sequel -The Godfather II and III. Later it made way to the silver screen.

With the success of The Godfather Mario never had to look back. He continued to write bestselling novels and all had the same success story.
