Leslee Udwin Biography

Leslee Udwin was born in a Jewish family in 1957 in Savyon, Israel. She is married to Kom Romer and has two children. She currently lives in London, UK.

Leslee began her career as a TV actor and firstly worked in a TV serial named Eldorado. She later became a producer and today is a famous British filmmaker. In 1989, she started her own production company named Assassin Films.

Some of Leslee well acclaimed movies which she produced are-East is East (1999), Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution (2007), West is West (2010), and recently a documentary movie on India’s Daughter (March 4, 2015).

East is East, a British comedy drama, was Leslee’s first feature film as a producer and she won British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for that. West is West is a sequel to East in East and was first released in Sept 12, 2010 at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Both the movies were directed by Damien O'Donnell.

Leslee has written, produced and directed the movie India’s Daughter which is also a part of the on-going BBC’s series called Storyville. The movie was based on Delhi gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya, who was a 23 year old woman and a physiotherapy student. The documentary was supposed to be released on March 8, 2015 on International Women’s Day over NDTV, India and BCC Four, UK. But, the government banned the broadcast in India. BCC, UK had broadcasted the documentary and it is also uploaded in YouTube (not accessible in all countries).
