All the banana lovers’ unanimously state vow it’s the national banana bread day, which means time on for banana recipes. Some of the well known recipes which are cherished by all is the “Banana crumb bread, chocolate banana bread pudding” etc. If you are calorie conscious and is on a weight loss trip then you might as well use the microwave instead of the baking pan with lesser loads of butter and other saturated fats. The Banana bread day is designated to celebrate just everything and anything amusing about the fruit, it’s also a great way to warm up your kitchen by baking moist, fresh and sweet fragrant banana bread. Despite our commercial uncertainties, which lays off our efforts to grow our own banana sapling, banana is an easily available tropical fruit all over the world and everybody would deliberately attempt to buy the fruit more often than any. Banana is an excellent source of energy contains enormous carbohydrates and can be grouped under simple source of carbohydrates, i.e. a quick energy builder. It also contains potassium and other essential minerals which is needed for the enrichment of the human health. It’s a cost-effective and energetic snack for a school goer. The potassium in the fruit can keep hypertension at bay, it can help to regulate fluctuations in blood pressure and also alleviate joint pain and muscle cramps. Banana when consumed with vitamin c sources like orange juice can help in the absorption of the potassium in the blood. If bananas are bought raw they do ripen at room temperature and can be stored till the day of consumption for a week’s time. If you intend to sustain the fruit for longer than a week, wrap the fruit with wet cloth and refrigerate this will preserve the fruit ripe and fresh inside even if the skin at the exterior turns black. Even if the fruit is fully ripen and the skin has turned dark it can be used beautifully for baking due to its rich favor and aroma. The ripen state of the fruit gives us also an excuse to cater our well longed for banana bread. Over-ripe bananas render a much stronger flavor for the baked bread. These over-ripe fruits are also easy to mash and can effortlessly kneaded to a loaf, ready for baking. Generally the over-ripe bananas are kneaded and stored in a heavily sealed freezer bag, it is always better to label it since the contents look unappealing to consume. You can look for ½ a cup of banana cup from a fully ripe medium sized banana. Once you’re ready with the mixture pull out the baggie and you are all set for the baking process. Most of the coconut detesters loved banana bread as their personal favorite. If you love anything with chocolate then banana and chocolate make a great combo by default. Thus a day to celebrate your very own and cherished fruit banana is “the banana bread day”. Many cities have their own innovative delicacies and pastry shops come up with amazing bakeries which add novelty to the Banana bread day.

Canadian Heritage Day 2009

Canada, the world’s second largest country, on the basis of land area, occupies nearly the entire Northern part of North America, stretching from Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northwards into the Arctic Ocean. Since time immemorial, the area covered by Canada, was variously occupied by the aboriginal tribes. During the 15th century the Europeans in the guise of the British and French came along and slowly settled along the Atlantic coast.

Each type of peoples left an indelible impression on the Canadian landscape and today what we know as Canada is an amalgamation of the various cultures that have lived and flourished here.

To celebrate, this Heritage of Canada, the third Monday of February, is earmarked as Heritage Day. The essence of Heritage Day is to promote, create awareness, and preserve the architectural, natural and historic culture of Canada.

The Department of Canadian Heritage in tandem with the National Museums, National Library and Archives and other interested groups across Canada has initiated a series of programs to create awareness and promotion of Canada’s multi dimensional heritage.

The concept of a Heritage Day came into being in 1973 and the third Monday of February, though not a national holiday is celebrated as Heritage Day.

History of Canadian Heritage Day

The Inuit, Métis and the peoples of First Nations have forever been settled in Canada and represent the ancient heritage of Canada. Archeological findings also support the presence of humans as long as 26,500 years ago. The Vikings came in AD 1000, but the colony did not flourish and further attempts at colonization were limited. In 1497 John Cabot from England explored Canadian’s Atlantic Coast, followed closely by Jacques Cartier from France in 1534. Samuel de Champlain settled the first permanent colony at Port Royal in 1605 and in Quebec in 1608. The invasion of the Europeans had begun and slowly they explored further territories and established settlements. The major presence of the French and the British resulted in the Constitutional Act of 1791 which cleaved the province into French speaking Lower Canada and English speaking Upper Canada each with its independent Legislative Assembly.

In 1867 another Constitutional Act, enabled the formation of a single Province Canada on July 1, 1867, with four provinces Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.

Heritage Celebrations across Canada

The Heritage Canada Foundation, a national organization was established in 1973 and in the words of its founder the Honorable Jean Chrétien “Maturity maybe recognized in a nation when its peoples think thought for their past, take thought….. in the dynamic sense of knowing the past as a key to understanding the past and the future”

On Canadian Heritage Day, volunteers across the various provinces help to preserve, rehabilitate, and learn of their common cultures and the fascinating history they share. Many communities include elaborate celebrations which continue even up to a month, recognizing and reveling in their historic architectural structures, collections, social history and the natural scenic landscapes. Most celebrations include teachers and heritage resources so that they can inculcate in their wards, since a tender age the love and pride of their unique heritage.

This year Heritage Day falls on 17th February 2009 and on the agenda is the architectural buildings and structures, many of which have iconic status. In accordance with this issue the Heritage Canada Foundation is commemorating Heritage and the Environment: Saving Places Built to Last. A wide range of resources are being made available to communities across Canada to preserve and utilize these architectural wonders. The program will focus on the green credibility of historic buildings; create awareness of their ecological and environmental capability and the tools required to save heritage buildings. The program will further educate the public on sustainable development and how indiscriminate construction results in environmental degradation.

There will be a blitzkrieg of events, promotions, seminars, lectures, and reports on how to save old buildings, their preservation and also maintenance. The beauty and functional aspects of heritage structures, reusing industrial heritage, economic development, preserving the environment with heritage structures, will all be covered.

Some salient issues concerning heritage buildings that will be highlighted will be:
  1. Reduce, reuse and recycle: Since heritage structures have been around since 50 or more years, they are efficient energy wise and with some rehabilitation can be reused.
  2. Demolishing heritage buildings will only result in massive landfill and new structures in their place will be nowhere efficient as the old ones.
  3. Construction and development increase environmental degradation and the energy consumed by new buildings add to greenhouse emissions.
  4. Reusing heritage structures leads to sustainable development.

In 2008 Heritage day celebrations centered on the theme: Work that endures –Careers in Built Heritage, which spotlighted the lives and work of Canadians who are involved in the preservation and promotion of Heritage structures. Luminaries who were featured were Jean Francois, master-plasterer, Tania Martin, associate professor of the School of Architecture, Steve Barber, Heritage planner and many others whose work is vital to Heritage preservation.

The theme for the year 2007: Places for People-Our Heritage of the each day. Towards this end the Heritage Canada Foundation identified buildings peculiar to a place and the communities that reside there. Vernacular heritage means structures that are developed over time to suit the culture and needs of different peoples. Canada is home to a rich vernacular heritage that too requires conservation and rehabilitation.

2006 celebrated Our Cultural Heritage Places.
2005 laid emphasis on the diverse faiths being practiced in Canada in the Heritage of Faith Youth Page.
2004 was Defending Canada Youth page.
2003 celebrated Heritage of our Town Youth page.
2002 was Industry and Innovation Youth page.
2001 celebrated Heritage of Transportation Youth page.

Canadian Heritage Day Celebrations are an innovative manner of educating youth and adults about the varied cultures and influences that have shaped Canada. People across the lines have been instrumental in adding their bit to save heritage and glorify it.

Indirectly, therefore bananas lead to healthier bones. Bananas also reduce the risk of cancer of the kidneys, reduce blood pressure, heartburn and alleviates stress. Bananas contain vitamin B12 and B6 as well as potassium and magnesium, which help reduce the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Bananas help in morning sickness, reduce stomach and mouth ulcers. The other main benefit of bananas is simply peel and eat. Banana peel is also used variously. Presidents Day History

Presidents Day is held on the 16th of February, Presidents Day is the birthday of, President George Washington, who the first president was of unites states of America. Presidents Day is a federal holiday in the U.S and is an annual event every year. It falls on the third Monday of February.

The entire week is considered as the week of high volume for sales, people plan to buy various things between these days and there is a great slash down in price, especially with cars and other premier products. It is still known popularly as the birthday of President Washington and not Presidents Day legally in many states.

In 1732 February 22nd the first president of United States was born. President George Washington was officially declared as the president of United States on April 30th 1789. Immediately after George Washington roared into power George Washington establishes a rule to himself that George Washington would abide by all the principles of a good leader. George Washington e was born in an ordinary farmer’s family in Virginia; George Washington chiseled himself with fine habits, morals, mannerism and acquired all the potential knowledge from his early childhood and family upbringing. A fable is narrated about the morals and bold nature of George Washington as a boy; George Washington was a naughty kid and was swift to his mischief, once with his self owned hatchet he cut down a small cherry tree. When his father saw the tree which was felled down his anger was kindled, with all his rage George Washington asked Washington, did you do that?, despite his fear George Washington refused to lie but stated that it was a fruit of his mischief, the father refused to hit him and pardoned him for he told the truth and was proud of his son.

George Washington had a passion for two, one being the military arts and the other the western expansion. When George Washington turned 16, George Washington entered the military force and later became the lieutenant colonel in 1754. Later the following year George Washington suffered a brutal injury and his horses were killed under him. Then George Washington started to take care of his land and decided to marry a widow named Martha with whom George Washington built a beautiful lasting family. As a planter Washington himself was bullied by the Brit merchants and heavily exploited by them, under the British regulations. On concurrent pressure adding up he decided to pose a steady opposition against the British. George Washington fame grew due to his daring mode of voicing his views and when the elections were pronounced George Washington was made the Virginian delegate and was elected the commander in chief. George Washington charted all the best possible means to harass the British and ensured quick action was taken with military rule and war towards all their injustice. George Washington understood the heartfelt necessity of a congress and peaceful president’s rule, though George Washington wanted to retire his unyielding nature towards the British supremacy kept him going. Wearied by no change between the parties and the governmental regulation, George Washington retired. Soon after his retirement, just three months later, George Washington died of his brief illness which was due to a petty throat infection; his last few years were spent at mount Vermont. On Dec 14th 1799 George Washington breathed his last. Nationwide the people of the United States brooded over the loss of their great leader and the day of his birthday, is another mode in way they express their love for their great leader.

Presidents day, not only reminds us about the birthday of George Washington it also brings to us, in light of the noble memory of president Lincoln who gave his life for human rights and towards his compulsion towards abolishment of slavery. Numerous events are piled up for the day like contest for kids, parades towards national unity, lucrative offer and sales promotions and discounts etc. The day is remembered to quicken the zeal for patriotism in every American and to bring to their memory, the selfless dedication of these two presidents, who are still adored and praised by all.

EVENTS: Lame Duck Day (6th February), History of Lame Duck Day, Lame Duck president, Lame Duck Day 2009

If you are figuring out the term “lame duck” to be a duck which has been injured and seeks medical help your presumption about the whole issue is absolutely wrong. “Lame duck day” is a day which is framed by the U.S constitution, to remark the succession of triumph of the new presidential candidate to the most powerful chair in the world, “the president’s chair”. The former president, who has lost is presidential position and is ready to be relieved, but is still enjoying his presidential position is termed as the “Lame duck”. It was framed in 1933, on the February 6th as the “lame duck day”, former president of the United States Mr.W.Bush, recently went through his lame duck days before he was relieved officially from his duties, he was remarked of going through his lame duck days in many leading press releases and news papers. Even if we are going through our lame duck days, there is no deal to be disheartened or troubled by the situation, because every good thing has to end, as the saying goes, nothing last forever and the prevalent uncertainty in the quick revolving world.

In English dictionary the world lame duck is termed, for a defaulter, who has shrieked his responsibility on terms of his financial liability, but literally according to the U.S assembly it is referred to as the period between the failure and Lame duck day of succession of the new successor, who is christened to abduct the throne from the looser.

This was passed as a 20th amendment, to bring to close the tenure of the failed public servant and was declared a holiday, to pay his respect for the services he has fulfilled towards the government. As the proverb goes, the “lame lion is old and void of teeth to chew”, thus thwarted off from its obligations.

Generally, when the defeated party still occupies the throne over a period of time, he and his congress are up to all the mischief, to keep their faults blind from even the most prying eyes, very disastrously from the next powerful government, who is waiting to launch off from its throne. Many lame duck presidents, during the lame duck phase, sway around going for trips, proclaiming the message of world peace to all. Some examples are the trip by W.Bush to the Middle East to establish his declaration of world peace to the gulf region. The visit of Ronald Regan to Soviet Union, to meet up with Gorbachchev, to liaison the terms between the two nations. Some presidents, even express their condolences and pardons to the flaws they have committed during their rule. Like the confession of Bush towards the Iraq war- operation desert storm, which took away millions of life, to capture a lonesome adversary. Every president wants to close of with a high note and not relieve being a lame duck, no matter how people raie their accusation against the lame duck president; a president is always a president. Carter was the most creative of them all; who while leaving his throne wrote a whole text of regulations on human rights for which he is known for, even now. The activity level during the last span of stay at the White house might escalate enormously, to keep their spirit remembered high, with warmth. When Clinton captured the throne, he ridiculed Bush for removing all the W’S from the computers. Ronald Regan released a few hostages as a part of his humanitarian measures, before he got relieved from power. A whole masala of lame duck soup, which quotes the tactic moves displayed by every president, who ever reigned is chronologically recorded. Thus the day “the lame duck day, pays the final adieu to the throne of the rejected president.

Thus having learned the causes, detection techniques, efficient screening and control of the disease as humans it our onus to spread the news of caution and care to all the deprived to win our world against the fatal disease, that has hailed to oppress the complete mankind

It is declared an official holiday and celebrated as a weather prognostic day on Feb 2nd ,when the badger or sacred bear emerges out of its burrow to find the shadow of itself or to see just snow flakes without its image down underneath. The onset of summer and the prolongation of winter is determined just by what the scared bear views, the moment it steps out. The occasion is celebrated all over the U.S and Canada and also possesses replication of the pagan festival of the medieval times called “Imbolic”. It draws its origin also from the Catholic Church and bears the similarities of the candlemas. In Pennsylvania the festival is celebrated with pomp and galore, where a battalion of mob gathers to witness the occasion. People drape themselves usually with fur coats; brief firework bliss is presented with its usual glory. Speeches are given; cuisines of various delicacies are served, people enjoy and await the forecast. The meteorological prophecy brings a feel of suspense and helps people to plan better on constructive measures. It is a superstitious belief that drives the entire event, which takes its roots from ancient German practices. Groundhog Day falls mid-way between the winter solstice and spring equinox. The former Christians believed that the candles blessed would sustain them from all the evils of the dark winter nights and carried it home after the ceremony with tones of religious reverence attached.

The groundhog peeps out and if the weather appears cloudy, it assumes winter and stays out hoping the weather to be quite moderate, or on the contrary swings back inside for its long and enduring hibernation, if the snow strikes badly. Numerous thought provoking tales and adage are spoken about this event in various places. The Pennsylvanians take the pride of predicting the forecast and have also formed a club known as the “inner circle”, who optimize all the events of the occasion. The mystical creator of the Groundhog Day, in the eighteen sixties Mr.Clymer Freas, brought about a historical event to bring Pennsylvania to the limelight as the weather capital. He established the event as a ritual and also distributed groundhog festive menus and beverages, which was nominated “groundhog punch”. Special training schools on badger hunting was taught and it was unanimously was accepted as a ritual and enjoyment. Clymer the master-brain behind this amazing event framed a new tongue called “groundhogese”, thus
