“JOIN HANDS DAY” is the only national volunteer day on the Seasons of Service calendar. It specifically targets and develops relationships between young people and adults through different neighborhoods. The youth and adults of a particular neighborhood work together on an equal basis to plan, organize and implement the day’s activities. The building of relationships across generations restores a huge amount of confidence, trust and respect for each other and creates a sense of unity in a community. The JOIN HANDS DAY also gives fraternal benefit to societies and volunteer organizations as they provide the opportunity to reach out to people they don’t know and to connect generations and to develop new relationships altogether."JOIN HANDS DAY "is held the first Saturday in May.
The America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies are the sponsors for the JOIN HANDS DAY. The Fraternal benefit societies began around 150 years ago and as of today it has nine million members in 31,500 local chapters. Such not-for-profit organizations improve their communities through various volunteer services and charitable outreaches, while helping their members achieve financial security through insurance and retirement products.
Fraternalism isn't a one-day-a-year event and requires a more often dedication and commitment. On “JOIN HANDS DAY”, the program provides all fraternalists and non-fraternalists the opportunity to make a difference in their neighborhoods through the different helpful projects that connect the youth and the adults.
JOIN HANDS DAY is open for everyone. Even though America’s Fraternal Benefit Society is formed with a strong foundation of participants, the other volunteers that take part in the program come from civic organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, faith groups, youth clubs, schools and various other backgrounds. Here the youth groups find adult organizations and the adult organizations find youth groups to develop a partnership for the day and develop new friendships as well.
