Hurricane Festival 2016 When and Where

It is held in the town of Scheessel (near Bremen) in Northern Germany. It was first held in 1973 and is still continuing to this day. The festival is generally considered to be about alternative music – not mainstream. Over the years, it has become more mainstream.

Another Festival called the Southside Festival is held at the same time in southern Germany and is considered a twin to the Hurricane Festival.

Hurricane Festival History

The very first festival held in 1973 had 52,000 people in the audience. 1977 was a tumultous year because only 5 out of 23 groups performed and the fans damaged property by rioting. 1997 was a seminal year – rock music returned to Scheessel in the form of the Hurricane Festival. The audience had 20,000 people and it took place in Eichenring, a motorcycle racing track. This has been the venue ever since. 2008 saw the biggest crowds – with 75,000 people attending.

Hurricane Festival 2016 Musical Acts

This years line up includes acts like All Shall Perish, Band of Skulls, Golden Kanine, Turbowolf, The Cure, Sportfreunde Stiller, Hot Water Music to name a few. Check the official website for more information on each group and the venue.
