The Floriade Festival is a horticultural festival – where one can experience the wonders of nature and learn the role of plants, trees and flowers in our daily life.
This event takes place every decade – the location has varied over the years since its inception in 1960. The city of Venlo won the bid to host the 2012 show after submitting a comprehensive plan to a Committee in charge of picking the venue.
The theme for this year’s show is “Be a part of the theatre in nature; get closer to the quality of life.” This will be the first ever show to be held in the south eastern quadrant of country – all the previous ones having been in the west.
Visitors have a chance to visit different areas of this wonderful expo. It has 5 themed areas, spread over 66 hectares. The themes are:
A preview event hosted in June 2010 garnered a lot of interest and drew over 20,000 visitors to the event. John Boon is the designated landscape architect for the event – expect to see some spectacular designs.
Over 100 exhibitors are showing off their gardening skills and products at Floriade. There is something of interest for people in every age group. The advertising for this show has been phenomenal and the organizers are expecting to see a lot of visitors this year.
The location of the Venlo Floriade expo is really good – it is easily accessible by road or rail for all European visitors. International visitors can fly into Amsterdam or any other European city and then make their way by road or rail.
