Fidel Castro Biography

Fidel Castro is a well known revolutionary figure and the former Prime Minister of Cuba. Castro served the nation of Cuba from the year 1959 to 1976. During this tenure Castro was recognized as an anti-capitalist leader and openly refuted the American dominance in Asian Countries. Fidel was also held as the President of the Cuba from the year 1976 to 2008. Later he transformed all his powers to his brother Raul Castro.

Birth Details &Personal Biography

Born on 13th August, 1926 in Biran, a small town near Mayari in Cuba. Fidel Castro’s father Angel Castro was a wealthy man and owned a sugarcane plantation. Castro’s mother Lina Ruz Gonzalez was the maid of the first wife of Angel Castro. Fidel grew in wealthy circumstance. Fidel completed his primary education from a private Catholic School. Later he went to El Colegio de Belen a Jesuit school in Havana for his higher studies. Fidel was considered to be an intellectually gifted student as he had an amazing memory power. Being a student in Havana Castro, he was more interested in sports rather than academics. Later in the year 1945, Castro enrolled himself in the law school at the University of Havana where he embroiled in the political culture of the University. Fidel was associated with one of the gangs of University named Union Insurrectional Revolucionaria. Though Castro had a high reputation and public speaking ability still he hardly won student elections and never became a well known student leader.

Career

At the early stage of his career Castro was only involved in the local parties surroundings the college. It was late in 1947 when Fidel Castro joined politics and became a political activist. His career line is as follows:

  1. In 1947, Castro joined a newly formed political party named Partido Ortodoxo.
  2. In 1951, the founder of the Partido Ortodoxo Eduardo Chibas shot himself after he was defeated in the election. Castro took his position.
  3. In 1953, Castro arranged an attack on Moncada Barrack and he was arrested for the same.
  4. In 1955, he was released and went to Mexico to visit Che Guevara.
  5. Castro formed a Guerilla war against the ruling government of Cuba.
  6. In 1959, Fidel Castro won the elections and was sworn as the Prime Minister.
  7. In 1960, Fidel signed several peace pacts.
  8. On April 16 1961 after so much effort put by Castro finally Cuba was declared as a Socialist State.
