Eiffel Tower Day is celebrated on March 31st to commemorate the completion of the tower on this day in 1889. The tower took a total of 2 years, 2 months and five days to be built. The chief designer and engineer Gustave Eiffel was the man behind the tower and hence it has been named after him as The Eiffel Tower. Made of pure iron, the tower was commissioned for the International Exhibition in the 1889 to mark the centenary celebrations of the French Revolution.
