To discuss Disarmament week, let’s start with the meaning and introduction of Disarmament. In simple words we may say that it is an act of reducing or limiting or abolishing weapons. We can also say that this is a part of economic, political, technical and military process to reduce and eliminate the weapon system. The most common type of Disarmaments are abolishing of weapon of mass destruction like nuclear arms. Complete Disarmaments stands for removal of all kind of weapons including conventional arms.
Many people believe that the world would be a more peaceful place if there were few weapons. I will also like add that United Nation is successfully working from past many years to reduce the nuclear weapons all over the world. After this introduction about Disarmament, let’s move of to Disarmament week. Disarmament week was founded by United Nation in year 1978 with purpose of controlling, reducing, limiting and abolishing of weapons. This week is held every year on 24 October- 30 October. This is an important occasion to raise awareness in the public and Governments, so that we can recognize disarmament as a key in creating a peaceful and sustainable world. The purpose of celebrating this week is to educate the people that how much peaceful this world is without weapons. Another purpose behind this is to organize a event where all states are invited from all over the world and information are given to them like danger of the arms race, need of reducing weapons, how does it effects environment and increasing public understanding of the urgent task of Disarmament. In 1995, it invites the Governments and NGOs to take part in Disarmament week. It also invited the General Secretary to promote and making a good understanding between the public of Disarmament problems and aims of the week. In Disarmament week, an important focus is given to convince the nations and making understanding between them for removing the mass destruction weapons like nuclear arms. Weapons are divided here in two major categories one among them is weapons of mass destruction that are nuclear, biological and chemical weapon, another category is of general weapons or small arms. Here I also want to add that most of the time of Disarmament is spent trying on halt all nuclear weapon making. United Nation also achieves few historical achievements in this Disarmament week for both weapons of mass destruction and conventional weapons. But here, I also want to add that still there are more than 30000 to 50000 nuclear warheads which are enough to destroy our beautiful world.
Many foundations as well as Universities have got to fail to support research in disarmament. Soviet Union was the perfect example of a country that had destroyed their lots of weapons in year 1991, and the main reason behind this is political pressure, as at that time Soviet Union is divided into many small countries. Though Nowadays, Many countries are influenced by Disarmament week and hence signing nuclear deal. This Disarmament week is not much successful in United States; the reason behind this is that United State is the biggest exporter of the small arms. And many political parties and Business Parties are against this Disarmament because as they believe this will affect their country’s growth. In the end, I just want to tell you people that every year our Country spend millions of dollars in making these weapons weather for weapon of mass destruction or on small arms, due to which our markets and economy affected. I am not talking about only an Under developed country but also speaking about Developed countries, as we are spending so much money here, then we have not much money available for spending on social problems or climatic issue or for development of our country, like if we not purchase or make weapons then we can spent these million of dollars for removing many of the social issues like child labor, or global warming, etc. But here we can just suggest, following these things or not are on our Government, weather they want to spend this money on weapons or for social problems.
