Conflict Resolution Day was celebrated by the United States Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) on 20 October, 2005 to educate people about conflict resolution. World Mediation Forum (WMF) joined ACR in 2006 to sponsor the Day. In March 2006, ACR’s Board of Directors designated the third Thursday in October as Conflict Resolution Day.
Since then, Conflict Resolution Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of October every year.
October is a time to promote and celebrate conflict resolution day worldwide. This year Conflict Resolution day is on 16 October 2015. The logo of the tree was designed as a sign to show growth in Conflict Resolution. In the beginning it started as small, just like the seeds of the tree we plant first year that will continue to grow and blossom every year.
Conflict Resolution Day was conceived by ACR’s Board of Directors to:-
Create awareness for, mediation, arbitration and other methods of resolving conflicts.
Encourage the use of conflict resolution techniques in families, schools, businesses, communities, legal system and government.
Recognize the importance of mediator or arbitrator in resolving conflicts.
Obtain national synergy by having celebrations around the world on the same day.
Dedicated and registered dispute resolution practitioners are helping to educate the people about mediation and other conflict resolution techniques. Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), World Mediation Forum (WMF) and many other conflict resolution organizations around the world are working to create awareness for mediation and conflict resolution. They coordinated their efforts in holding local celebrations on Conflict Resolution Day.
