CCHT Exam

The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) develops and administers the exam for Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) to health-care workers in clinical Hemodialysis. Certification ensures job security, better pay and the affirmation that the person is competent and an expert in the area of dialysis.

The CCHT Exam is a multiple choice 150 question paper, with three hour duration and there are no negative scores for wrong answers.

The CCHT Exam can be taken either in paper pencil format or computer based.

Eligibility

Candidates appearing for the CCHT Exam need to satisfy the following eligibility conditions:

  • A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • A completed Hemodialysis Training Program which must include theoretical study combined with clinical experience.
  • Six month work experience as a Hemodialysis Technician

Content A & B

The CCHT Exam is divided into four separate dialysis practice domains. Domain A is Clinical Practice, which tests experience with direct care of patients. It tests understanding of regular procedures performed and knowledge of matters handled on a daily basis. Content A constitutes 50% of the exam.

Domain B is the Technical Practice which tests proper handling of medical equipment and machinery and constitutes 23% of the exam. Domain B tests understanding of equipment used as well as awareness of emergency procedures.

Content C & D

Domain C deals with environment and constitutes 15% of the exam. The test will test knowledge of equipment and their functioning in a particular setting, their maintenance, methods of disinfecting and general upkeep.

Domain D deals with Role and constitutes 12% of the exam. This domain tests the role of the technician with reference to other caregivers, personnel, doctors as well as knowledge of correct procedures of documenting findings and conveying it to the concerned superiors.

CCHT Exam benefits greatly from the work experience a candidate has gained. The NNCC which administers the exam suggests several core curriculum resources. Attend review sessions, take a practice exam and connect with your peers who have obtained certification. Start preparing several months in advance.

Scores

The CCHT Exam if in the paper- pencil format will require 4-6 weeks for the scores/ results to arrive. CCHT exam if computer based, the result is available immediately. For both exams passing score is 75%.
