Captain Walter M. Schirra

Captain Walter M. Schirra was a famous astronaut who has great importance in the field of astronomy. Captain Walter M. Schirra has done many great deeds for the astronomy fraternity. Captain Walter M. Schirra is remembered as one of those seven Mercury Astronauts, which was named by NASA in April 1959. However Captain Walter was the only man who flied in the NASA’s all three earlier manned Programs namely Mercury, Apollo and Gemini. Captain Walter served as a navy pilot in the Korean War and later on and after that he turned into test pilot. Captain Walter is the fifth American in space and the third American to orbit the earth. Captain Walter commanded his last manned mission, which was Apollo-7. However in this mission three astronauts also caught head cold because of which they have to return back.

Captain Walter was born on March 12, 1923, in Hackensack, New Jersey. Captain Walter has passed his engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (N.J.I.T.) in the year 1941. Still now his birthday is celebrated among the famous birthdays in march. However captain Walter. Sr., father of Captain Walter was also a pilot and served the country in the world war-1. At the age of 15 Captain Walter was turned into a skilled pilot and he can easily fly his father’s airplane.  Captain Walter died at the age of 84 in the year 2007 but Captain Walter M. Schirra left a great treasure behind. Captain Walter M. Schirra has won many great awards, which shows how great and skilled person he was when it comes to astronomy. Captain Walter M. Schirra started his career in NASA as the on April 2, 1959 when he was chosen as the one of the original seven American astronauts in the project Mercury.

Apart from the astronomy captain Walter was also a great writer. He has inclination towards writing. In 2005 Schirra co-authored the book The Real Space Cowboys with ed Buckbee. Captain Walter M. Schirra also played a great role in the 2007 book in the shadow of the Moon

Captain Walter was the man who stayed in space for 295 hours and 15 minutes. However this was great thing which astonished the world because mercury-7 was the men’s first effort to put men in the space. Two great roles portrayed his life in the movies also.
