Anthony De Mello

Anthony De Mello is a well known Jesuit Priest and is very famous for his writings and spiritual conferences. He was born on 4th September 1931 in Bombay India. He has travelled to many states and countries for education and his career mostly in Spain and the United States. Some of his famous talks were allowed to be filmed by him such as Rediscovery of Life and Way to God for Today. These films have inspired many viewers and audiences since its release. Anthony De Mello has established a prayer center in India. With its sudden death in 1987 the world lost a great spiritual man. Some of his works were published after his death.

Personal Biography

Anthony De Mello has shown an authenticate way of living through his various stories and lectures. The spiritual insight and thorough understanding humanity in him has been reflected in all his works. He had a quality of getting to the depth of everything and understood it well. It gained him worldwide recognition. His meditation techniques were the combination of Eastern Religious Thoughts, Modern Psychology and Spiritual Exercise. Anthony De Mello had a strong believe that most of people are fast asleep and it was necessary for them to wake up so that they get aware of not only their surroundings but also what is there deep inside them. He had a simple philosophy that human beings should be well acquainted with their feelings, sensation, thoughts and above all their mind. 


Anthony De Mello has organized many workshops which were attended by thousands of people. People considered him to be one of the best public speaker. Most of the time of his life he spent by talking about the Almighty’s greatness. He also engaged himself in counselling people. De Mello firmly believed that vagaries of life are supposed to be kept aside in order to enjoy the life to its fullest. He conveyed this belief of his through his seminars and workshops. He always wanted people to be alert about the pervasiveness of God.

Anthony De Mello has written some of the famous books during his career as a socialist. The topics that were dealt in his books were very much similar to his teachings and belief such as Christian Spirituality, Buddhist Parables, Hindu Breathing exercise and Psychologist insight about the life. Some of his writings are translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, Bengali and Thai.
