Why is celebrated?

World statistics shows that around 250,000 people from United States are victims of HIV but this fact is not known to them. National HIV Testing Day comes with awareness of making people know about their HIV status. This day is celebrated to impart knowledge about this disease and make people healthy.

National HIV Testing Day is led by “The National Association of People with AIDS”.


National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is the campaign brought out annually. National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is the effort of National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US) in order to uplift the courage of at-risk individuals with the means of voluntary HIV counseling and testing. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) such a large number of individuals are affected by HIV-positive in US but due to their ignorance they are suffering a lot. Thus, HIV counseling and testing makes them aware to fight against the disease and make their life healthy and also their partner's life. This kind of counseling support always enables even HIV negative people to stay away from the disease.

How is This Day (NHTD) helpful?

There exist various websites of HIV counseling and testing, community-based HIV/AIDS service providers along with state and local health departments etc to support different NHTD events who take part in this celebration by the means of health fairs, and by hosting special testing-related event, providing community and media outreach. Various events will take place during the entire weeks before and after NHTD. To celebrate this event, different posters, and other campaign item will be made by NAPWA. They can be downloaded from the internet on order. Organizers of NHTD will also go for awareness campaign various communities where the risk of HIV infection is more, like African American and Latino populations. These two places are highly affected with HIV in comparison to the other communities of US. The campaign also includes the web site, so that users can find HIV testing areas around them.


The National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) was established in the year 1983. It is known to be the oldest AIDS organization nationwide. It is also the foremost network of people who deals with HIV and AIDS in the world. NAPWA makes various campaigns in order to provide awareness about HIV and AIDS.Moreover, it imparts knowledge of several stories of HIV from the past, present, and future.
