Harry s. Truman Background Information:

Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884.
His parents were John Anderson and Martha Ellen Truman.
Harry S. Truman was the eldest of three siblings.
Truman spent his childhood in Grandview, Independence and Kansas City.
Truman graduated form high school in 1901. Truman worked as a timekeeper for a railroad construction contractor and as a clerk before returning to his father’s farm.
Truman served in the Missouri National Guard for six years. Truman served in the military during World War I in 1917 and expressed his willingness to serve in World War II but was not allowed to do so.
During his career in the army, he attained a high rank of Colonel.
Truman married his childhood sweetheart Bess Wallace on June 28, 1919,
Truman had one daughter from that marriage. After failing in business, Truman dealt with debts and bankruptcy for many years.
Harry S. Truman died on December 26, 1972.

In 1922, Truman was elected to be one of three judges of the Jackson County Court.
Truman became presiding judge in 1926 and retained that position till 1934.
In 1934, Truman was elected to the United States Senate.
As chairman of the Senate Special Committee he was responsible for Investigating the National Defense Program.
In July 1944, Truman competed with President Franklin D. Roosevelt for the office of Vice President with.
On January 20, 1945, Truman took over the vice-presidential office.
On April 12, 1945, Truman took the Presidential oath after President Roosevelt’s death.

Harry s. Truman participated in a conference at Potsdam, Germany and led the defeated nation to a war with Japan.
Harry s. Truman was influential in the atomic bombing on Japan on August 6 and 9, 1945.
United Nations was founded during his presidency.
Truman leadership and policy initiatives also lead to strained relationships between Soviet Union and America.
Truman Doctrine wanted to provide military aid to communist insurgencies countries.
The Marshall Plan was aimed at revival of European economies to avoid communist influence.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization built a military barrier confronting the Soviet-dominated part of Europe.
Truman had a key role to play in the war between North and South Korea.
Truman worked significantly towards restoring peace and stability in post-war America. Truman also introduced the New Deal social programs to involve the governments in order to have a wider public reach.
Truman issued orders against racial discrimination in employment avenues.
Truman also established a Committee on Civil Rights. Truman was reelected as President in 1948.
Truman resigned from presidential office and retired in January 1953.
Truman founded a library wherein he made all his papers accessible for historical and scholarly reference.
