The first New Mexico State Fair was in 1881which lasted for five days. In spite of the gloom of the rainy weather, the first fair could attract a huge crowd. Though this fair started long after the establishment of most of the other state fairs, it became very popular unlike other fairs. Crowd pleasing trapeze artists and other daredevil acts such as parachute jumpers were part of this event till date. The fair gradually earned the reputation of being one of the greatest annual events in the Southwest. Now, the New Mexico State Fair is a 17 day fair held in September at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque.
