The Kentucky State Fair, the official state fair of Kentucky has traditionally been held at the Kentucky Exposition Centre in Louisville. The 11 day event attracts more than 600,000 fairgoers every year. Kentucky State Fair hosts numerous competitions in crafts. The competitions at the fair cover almost all areas including quilt-making, homebrew beers, home-made pastries, as well as fine arts and agricultural competitions.
The beginning of the fair can be traced back to 1816 when Fayette County farmer Colonel Lewis Sanders took initiative for this event. But the event attained the status of an official state fair in 1902 only. Until 1907, the fair was held in different cities around the country. It was in 1907 Louisville got established as the permanent home of the Kentucky State Fair. During World War II Churchill Downs hosted the fair. This year marks the 108th anniversary of the Kentucky State Fair.
