April is a great month for growing flowers. Apart from growing, it is a part of the spring season; there are a good number of flower varieties one can choose from when planning to grow flowers in this time of the year.

Crossvine

Also known as trumpet-flower vine, the crossvine is native to North America and blooms as a perennial crawling vine. It actually has the potential to climb in high parts, including high trees and walls. What makes it nice looking is its unique trumpet shape, aside from its bright reddish-orange vibrant colour. It is easy to maintain and in fact, it is drought-tolerant.

Zinnia

Zinnia is another flower that best thrives in April. Usually grown from seeds, zinnia grows in rich, fertile, and well-drained soil. It also requires a full sun. What make zinnias beautiful are its different vivid colours, its petal formation, and its being sturdy. It is actually easy to plant, so beginners who want to establish a colourful garden usually opt for zinnias. What is nice about zinnias is that attract butterflies which make the garden even more beautiful.

Forsythia

From the Olivia family, this flower is easy to grow as well. It can reach to as high as 10 feet and can spread to as wide as 15 feet. Best to plant in well-drained soil and must be positioned in a place that has full sun, forsythia makes an interesting addition to any garden. Its ability to grow fast won't bore any gardener, especially the beginners.

Fly Poison

Another April-blooming flower is Fly poison, or also known as stagger grass. Fly poison belongs to the lily family and produces a small-sized clumps flowers. Under direct sunlight in moist, rich soil, fly poison is fast to grow and easy to maintain. There is a need to be extra careful with this flower, though. It may be beautiful and easy to grow, but it is toxic and ingesting it can be dangerous.

Marigold

The marigold, due to its vibrant and vivid colours of white, orange or yellow, are very ideal to be placed at the edge of the flowerbed. What also makes it an ideal edge flower is its size. Its small size makes it a wonderful border in any garden.

Higan Cherry

Higan cherry is also known as rosebud cherry. This is a fast-growing flower that belongs to the rose family. Its height grows to as tall as 30 feet, and its leaves are lance-like and 1 to 3 inches long. Higan cherry has a pink hue, but most of it turns yellow as fall approaches. Trees of this flower bear cherries, hence the name, but it is not edible. Higan cherry thrives best in well-drained soil and under full sun.

Trillium

The name trillium represents its petals which are only three. With a variety of colours that range from white to purple, the trillium is a common sight all over the United States, especially in the parts of the east of the country as well as most parts of North America. They are low-lying plants and have velvety-feel foliage. One interesting feature of trillium is its ability to have petals of three different shades in one flower.
