Easter Vacation 2016

According to the New Testament, three days after crucifixion, Jesus rose from dead. The followers of Christianity celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday( which is also known as Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday ) which falls two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday(which refers to the last supper). Easter is the central festival in the Christian religion.  First week of the Easter season is referred as Easter Week and it also marks the end of Lent, which is a season of fasting, prayer and penance.  Easter Friday is commemorates the day when Jesus Christ was crucified and died on the cross.

In the year 325 AD, the first council of Nicaea convened and established the Easter rule that says Easter should be celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon, following the northern hemisphere’s vernal equinox. Even though the equinox falls on March 20 in most years, ecclesiastically equinox is considered to be on March 21.  As full moon is not always astronomically fixed date, Easter is said to be a moveable festival in respect to the civil calendar.  Hence the Easter date fluctuates between March 22 and April 25.

Activities such as the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts have become a part of the Easter holiday’s celebrations, thus making it one of the favored festivals with children after Halloween that attracts many Christians and non-Christians alike.
