Christmas time is the time for celebration. We celebrate Christmas for the birth of Jesus Christ, our savior. But the celebrations aren't complete without the Christmas toys, the Christmas tree and the Santa-Claus.

Every year Christmas preparations begin a month before. Every road is decorated with Christmas trees (coniferous trees), with lots of lights hanging on it and not to forget the star. The star signifies the birth star of Jesus Christ. Lots of carol singing, other decorations add to the festive mood.

'Father Christmas' (or Santa Claus) is the human form that goes with the festival. He is an old man, with a long white beard, red coat, red hat and with a big bag of Christmas toys. Children are told stories that on the night before Christmas, Santa Claus comes down the chimney and puts gifts and toys for children in socks or bags in front of the Christmas tree. Children actually believe that he is the one who put their gifts in the socks.

Santa Claus' story began at around 400 A.D. It's based on a real-life character St.Nicolas, who was a very shy man. Without showing himself he used to help people. On one such occasion, when he dropped a gift for a small girl through the chimney, it landed in her stocking she had put for drying by the fire, the story that Santa Claus comes down the chimney and puts gifts in stockings. The gift he drops is usually the thing the person yearns, to make him really happy.

Christmas gifts have changed drastically with time. Every year in Christmas festive the markets are flooded with different kinds of Christmas toys and Christmas gifts. The children too want the latest thing. They have become very choosy about the toys they are going to play with. In the recent times, it has become an impossible task to convince the kids into using something else.
