Boomerang is a TV channel for kids featuring mostly cartoon and animated programs. It is a fully owned subsidiary of the Cartoon network. A unique feature of boomerang TV is that it does not carry any commercial product endorsements. The only advertisements it carries are promotional for boomerang TV programs and for cartoon network. The actor and current host of Family Feud John O'Hurley is the host and makes announcements for the promos.
Boomerang was launched in the US on April 1, 2000. It initially followed a looping format and programs would be shown from 8 am ET. A huge variety of half and one hour long cartoon programs would be broadcast from Monday till Thursday. On Fridays, one cartoon program would be shown for the entire day for a full 24 hrs. The chief character of these Friday programs is now called the "monthly character of the month" also called "Boomeroyalty". On Saturdays, cartoons of a particular year ranging from 1963 to 1983 are shown. On Sundays, a theme called Boomeraction is followed where animated action adventure programs such as Super Friends, Space ghost etc are broadcast.
Boomerang broadcasts classic cartoons and animated television programs mainly from the Warner Bros., Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Hanna barbera archives. The number of programs broadcast from the Hanna barbera archives far outnumbers the others. Some of the prominent shows are as listed below:
