Atlanta celebrated the Annual Atlanta Caribbean Carnival festivals. The carnival was celebrated since 21 years. This is the 21st Annual Carnival.

The Carnival will be celebrated on Saturday, May 23rd 2009.

The theme of 21st Annual Atlanta Caribbean carnival is “Unity through Diversity”.

A parade will be started from ‘West Peachtree’ and finished with ‘Auburn Avenue’.

This celebration promises one of the largest and best ever to Downtown, Atlanta, GA.

The carnival shows the variety of sights, sounds and tastes of the Caribbean.

It is a communal festival or parade in the streets. People frequently dress up in costumes for the festivals.

The commencing of “Carnival”:

Long ago, the Catholic religion followers have started the tradition of a costume festival in Lent.  In Italy started the tradition of holding a costume festival right of Lent. At this time Catholics were not supposed to eat meat during Lent, this festival was called ‘carnevale’ — which means “to put away the meat.” As years passed, carnivals in Italy became quite popular and the celebrations spread to France, Spain, and all the Catholic countries in Europe. The French, Spanish, and Portuguese commenced to get direct of the Americas and other parts of the world their tradition of rejoicing carnival of them.
