Anguilla had also been dominated by British settlers at some point of time. During the early days of their settlement they were forced to leave the island and settle to more fertile places like the BVI, Cancun and St. Croix. After this, a unique Anguilla colony was created which did not consist slavery which was very common in most Caribbean islands.
The Anguilla Summer Festival has been celebrated for more than a quarter century on the island. It is a typical Caribbean celebration and one can trace its roots from the old traditional bazaars, August Monday fairs and old Christmas festivities. The Anguilla Summer Festival is influenced a lot from the African culture which include May pole dancers, wirewalkers, Mock-a-Jumbies and many other activities.
The main idea of the Anguilla Summer Festival Committee is to bring back the traditional art and merge it with modern mass. As today’s festivities lack the old charm of those days and are the typical Caribbean Carnivals.
