Indonesia signed the Kyoto protocol on July 13, 1998. The country ratified the protocol on December 3, 2004.
Between 1998 and 2004 (signing and ratification), the country prepared all the necessary documents and research to prove that they will be able to follow through if they ratify the protocol. The preparation included scientific rationale, appointment of Designated National Authority, and discussions with Legislative Body and stakeholders. They also had to train the developers, who work with biomass energy, on preparing and formulating the documents.
