What Did The Kyoto Protocol Face

The Kyoto protocol had a great set up, origin and target. Even supporters wise, except the superpower US, the rest of the developed countries had ratified and strived to follow through. Its goals are noble and its mechanisms innovative. In spite of all this, the international treaty faced few different hurdles.

The leading advocates of the protocol, Canada, Japan and the EU, even though they tried their best, were not able to meet their targets. Meanwhile, it has been facing many criticisms:

  • Its target being too ambitious;
  • Its decision to not have strict targets for developing nations to be a weakness;
  • Its reduction levels to be not scientifically enough to solve the issue; and
  • The cost of the project to be economically draining for the countries.
