Many analysts say that it would be better to continue the Kyoto protocol into its second phase, rather than giving up on it now. As all the preparatory work has been done and a lot of time and money spent on it, it is only effective to continue it. They say that it will surely work for itself in the future and have a greater impact.
At present, the alternatives to cutting or even transforming the protocol are not very strong measures. There will be a time lapse between initiating and implementation any new measure. In addition, there is no guarantee that the new treaty will not face the same things the Kyoto protocol did. Considering all these, cutting the Kyoto protocol is considered expensive.
