The Omani Rial is the official currency of Oman and is known as OMR. Further¸ one Rial is divided into 1000 Baiza. In the year 2005¸ one Rial became almost equal to 2.59067 US Dollars which made it the fourth most valued currency. This was after Kuwati Dinar¸ altese Lira and Bahraini dinar.

Omani Rial is known as the official currency of Oman and the ISO 4217 Code of OMR is its mark. It has a corresponding ISO 4217 code for OMR which is 512 and its currency exponent of 3. The ISO 4217 is an international standard that describes the three-letter codes which are known as the currency codes. These codes are accepted all over the world and are used by businesses¸ banking institutions and individuals to define various currencies. Oman: Omani Rial- Banknotes
In the year 1970¸ the government introduced banknotes in denominations of 100 baiza¸ ½¸ ¼¸ 1¸ 5 and 10 rial saidi. This was then followed by the Oman Currency Board and issued into Omani rials. Later in 1977¸ the Central Bank of Oman issued notes of 20 and 50 rials and then in 1985 it was followed by 200 baisa.

The history of coins started way back in 1890s when 1/12 and ¼ were specifically made for Oman and Muscat. Later in 1940¸ the coins were used in denominations of 10¸ 20 and 50 baisa. In 1948¸ ½ rial coins were then added which was then followed by 3 baisa in the year 1959. In the year 1946¸ there were 2¸ 5 and 20 baisa coins that were introduced in Oman. Now the coins that are in use are 5 baisa¸ 10 baisa¸ 25 baisa and 50 baisa.
Oman: Omani Rial- Symbol
The most popular symbol is the Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said on all the notes.
100 baisa note- Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said and an irrigation canal. The note is green in color and when you reverse it¸ it has a Verreaux eagle and a white oryx.
The 200 baisa note is bluish green in color with Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said¸ Seed and Salalah airports. The reverse side is the marine Science & Fisheries Center¸ Port and Muttrah.
1 rial is purple in color with Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said and the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex. The reverse side has Omani Khanjar¸ silver bracelets and ornaments and dhows.
