About the Currency of Bosnia-Herzegovina

The currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Bosnia and Herzegovina convertible mark. The ISO 4217 code is BAM and the local sign is KM which is in Latin or Cyrillic. This currency is pided into 100 fenings. Both the names are derived from Pfennig and German Mark¸ therefore the subpision spelling is Pfeniga. 

Currency of Bosnia-Herzegovina - Bosnia-Herzegovina Coins

In the year 1998 on December 9¸ coins of denominations 10¸ 20 and 50 fenings were introduced. These coins were designed during the same year by Kenan Zekic¸ a Bosnian designer. Later in 2000¸ July 31st¸ 1 mark and 2 mark coins were introduced. Eventually in 2006¸ 5 maraka and 5 fening came into existence. The 5 fening and 1 mark are in nickel plated steel while 10¸ 20 and 50 fening were in copper plated steel. The 2 and 5 maraka are in bimetallic.

 Currency of Bosnia-Herzegovina - Banknotes

In the year 1998¸ banknotes came into existence with the denominations of 50 fenings¸ 1 mark¸ 5¸ 10¸ 20¸ 50 and 100 marks. Later in 2002¸ 200 mark notes were introduced. On March 31¸ 2003 the 50 fening notes was no more in circulation. 

The Central Bank of Bosnia Herzegovina issued the banknotes with a prominent design of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Repuiblika Srpska. This was excluding the 200 mark note. As of now¸ all current notes are circulated in the country. 

The CBBH Governing Board withdrew the circulation of the KM 5 banknote in March 2009. Till December 31 2009¸ the KM 5 banknote was a legal tender and other commercial banks accepted the KM 5 banknotes till March 31¸ 2010. As of now¸ the KM coin is still in circulation.
