World Kidney Day 2015 Theme is "Kidney Health for All", 2014 theme is"Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and aging" and 2013 theme is "Amazing Kidneys! Protect your kidneys, Save your heart".
World Kidney Day 2016 celebrates on March 10th
World kidney Day (WKD) is a worldwide awareness campaign on a war footing to focus on the importance of kidneys and to disseminate knowledge of the various kidney ailments and their impact on overall health. The campaign which is celebrated in more than 100 countries is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations.
To emphasize the role of the kidneys in the body.
To underline the fact that High blood pressure and diabetes are key reasons for Chronic Kidney disease.
To encourage screening for Chronic Kidney disease among patients with diabetes and hypertension.
Disseminate information about preventive measures.
Motivating and educating health care professionals about their contribution towards reducing chronic kidney disease.
To involve government health authorities in minimizing the epidemic of Chronic Kidney disease.
Kidney diseases are extremely common, harmful and can be treated. The increasing incidence of diabetes in the population, hypertension, obesity and smokers are at increased risk of developing Chronic Kidney disease. Kidney disease also leads to cardiovascular diseases and it is estimated that millions die due to heart failures prompted by kidney disease. The incidence of patients with kidney disease has taken on epidemic proportions and hence the World kidney day. This day which is usually celebrated on the 11th of March each year is marked by a lot of activities, celebrity participation, screening camps, walks, a human chain, distribution of literature and posters, flyers and the inclusion of volunteers who help spread awareness about kidney diseases. WKD badges are also distributed to the general public, talks and seminars by health care professionals as well as easily accessible screening camps for kidney disease are held.
The 2011 campaign will emphasize on the essential link between Chronic Kidney Disease and the spread of cardiovascular disease. Hence the slogan for this year’s campaign is Protect Your Kidneys and Save Your Heart. This year the activities under the WKD are numerous and informative. The Turkish Kidney Foundation WKD activity includes training for women in kidney friendly nutrition project. There will also be scientific seminar on latest research on kidney disease held at the UFUK medical school. The usual activities include a gala dinner to raise money, screening camps, a walkathon and many other activities that will focus attention on the health of our kidneys.
The slogan for the WKD 2010 was Protect your kidneys, Control Diabetes.
The 2009 WKD, mission was that Chronic Kidney disease is harmful, common and treatable, the slogan was Keep the Pressure Down.
The 2008 WKD slogan was Amazing Kidneys.
The 2007 WKD slogan was Are your Kidneys OK.
