What are the Problems Causing Kidney Transplantation

Kidney or renal transplantation is the most common life saving surgical procedure that involves replacement of failed kidneys with a working kidney from a donor. Even though it is not a permanent cure for the disease, people with kidney transplant may live happily without any major complications as they did before. There are many reasons that can damage your kidneys and may lead to the kidney transplantation:

  • Primary kidney diseases such as hemolytic urenic syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus etc that may affect the functionality and lead to kidney failure
  • Chronic general health illnesses like diabetes, anemia, stomach ulcers, amyloidosis and high blood pressure
  • Severe injuries, burns or major surgeries
  • Heart, liver or vascular diseases
  • Kidney diseases caused by inheritance - Polycystic kidney disease, congenital obstructive uropathy, cystinosis, prune belly syndrome etc
