Vajrasana Diamond Pose

Introduction 

Vajrasana or the diamond pose is the simplest of all the yoga postures. Vajrasana is a Sanskrit word which is a combination of two words - ‘vajra’ and ‘asana’. Vajra means ‘Thunderbolt’ or ‘Diamond’, and asana means Pose, hence the name Diamond Pose. Vajrasana or Diamond Pose is a sitting yoga posture and is used for meditation, awakening confidence, breathing exercise and as a stress reliever. The best part of Vajrasana or Diamond Pose is that this asana can be performed for a prolonged period without stressing any body parts. Vajrasana or Diamond Pose is known for radiating energy and channelizing the energy to the upper part of the body making you feel confident and energetic.

How to Perform Vajrasana Diamond Pose

To perform Vajrasana or Diamond Pose one should follow the below mentioned points:

  1. Since Vajrasana or Diamond Pose is a sitting posture, first you need to sit down on your knees.

  2. Make sure that while in the sitting posture; your head, spine and neck are straight.

  3. Fold both the knees and keep them joint such that you are sitting on the pit formed by the heels. Both the posterior side of your upper part and lower part of the legs should be pressed against each other.

  4. Place your hands on the upper part of your thighs with palms down.

  5. Inhale deeply through your nose with your eyes closed.

  6. Exhale out slowly through your nose with your eyes closed. Do not forget to keep your neck, spine, back and head straight while exhaling.

  7. Continue the inhaling and exhaling exercise as stated above while in Vajrasana or Diamond Pose posture.

However, it is Important To Note the Following Points

  1. There is no time limit associated with Vajrasana or Diamond Pose and you can continue doing it as long as you feel comfortable.

  2. The minimum time to practice Vajrasana or Diamond Pose is three minutes.

  3. There is no defined time table for Vajrasana or Diamond Pose and one can perform this asana even just after meals.

  4. It is better to do Vajrasana or Diamond Pose in a quiet and open place so that your mind is at peace and you get fresh air for the breathing exercise associated with the Vajrasana or Diamond Pose.
