According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), top 10 dog breeds in the USA for the year 2013 is as follows:

1.       Labrador Retriever:

The Labrador Retriever, also popular as Lab, is of gun dog category. It is even tempered, intelligent, gentle, and energetic. If properly trained, a Labrador Retriever can assist blind, physical handicapped people and accomplish screening and detection task for official agencies. Characteristics of a Labrador Retriever are as follows:

·         Lifespan: 10 to 12 years

·         Height: 56 to 57 cm (male), 54 to 60 cm (female)

·         Weight: 25 to 32 kg

·         Origin: Canada

·         Coat: Short, straight, smooth, dense, mostly come in solid black, yellow or chocolate color.

·         Physical appearance: Body is a little longer than tall. The dog is more heavy, thick, and blocky.

 

2.       German Shepherd:

The breed of German Shepherd dog, also known as Shepherd and written as GSD, has been developed for shepherding dogs. It is classified in most Breed Standards under Herding Group, Working Group, Pastoral Group, etc. German Shepherd dogs are strong, courageous, intelligent and can be trained easily. 9.       Rottweiler:

The Rottweiler is a domestic dog breed and also called as Rottie. Initially this dog was used for shepherding and pulling carts laden with butchered meat and other products.
